Knowing God's will and purpose

Ever noticed that so long as "things are exciting" and "going according to plan"; when the money's rolling in and we're "confident" or "happy" with our lives ... that we also feel "in touch with God" and confident of his will ... and stimulated by our purpose and effectiveness?

We feel like God's right there at our shoulder ... so long as the future appears bright and unfettered on the horizon.
